The brief

Sosyete Nargile sells hookah tobacco, e-cigarettes and hookah charcoal. The shop needed to present hundreds of products from more than twenty brands in a well-organised catalogue and route orders to the WhatsApp line it uses. We built the site that way: visitors move from category to brand to product, and the button on every product opens a WhatsApp chat with a prefilled message naming that product. There is no cart, no account and no checkout. The catalogue lives in PostgreSQL. A password-protected admin panel handles products, brands and categories; price and stock changes show on the storefront immediately, and in-stock and sold-out states update themselves. Uploaded images are converted to WebP and stored in S3-compatible SeaweedFS. We also made a lightweight Android app that opens the panel on a phone.

Approach

Three decisions that shaped the project.

  1. 01

    Orders happen in WhatsApp

Instead of a cart and accounts, every product card has a WhatsApp button. The message arrives prefilled with the product name, so the shop knows what is being asked about from the first line.

  2. 02

    Category, brand, product

The catalogue has three levels: category, brand and product. Brand pages list logos and product counts, and product and brand search gets visitors to what they want in seconds.

  3. 03

The panel does the image work

JPEG, PNG and GIF uploads are converted to WebP, auto-oriented and scaled to at most 2000 px; SVG logos stay as vectors. The app runs in Docker on Coolify, with Drizzle applying database migrations at start-up.
